ITone of March ends with a special tasting that brings us to the Easter celebration that will take place in April: come and you to a tasting in which we combine 5 wines from the Fetească Neagră variety with 5 types of sarmales, both Romanian and...international .
You will thus be left with some ideas about what you can prepare for the Easter table and what wine you can pair the dishes with.
For this tasting, we chose 5 Fetești Blacks from 5 different areas of Romania plus a white blend of Fetească Albă and Fetească Regală, a very fresh wine suitable to start our evening. They deal with the 5 different types of sarmals Cosmin Dragomir, gastronome, author of the book "Curatorul de Zacuscă" (plus a book about ready-to-eat sarmales) and lover of Romanian culinary history.
Thus, on 29 March 2023 TO 6:30 p.m I'll meet you at Brewer's Inn Casa Oprea Soare (Bucharest) to try 5 wines from the Fetească Neagră variety from 5 different wine regions of the country, 1 white blend from Fetească Albă & Fetească Regală, as well as 5 different types of sarmals.

The wines & wines chosen for tasting
For tasting "Fetish and Sarmale Tasting" we took into account several wines from the Fetească Neagră variety, a grape variety recognized in Romania and beyond the borders of the country, which is expressed differently depending on the region from which it comes.
Black girl is the autochthonous grape variety that began to represent Romania beyond the country's borders. Originally from Moldova (both the Moldova region on the territory of Romania and the Republic of Moldova), this type of grape is cultivated in over 3000 hectares on the territory of our country.
The Fetească Neagră variety is also known as: Coada Rândunicii (Romania, Republic of Moldova), Fetyaska Chernaya (Ukraine), Păsărească Neagră and Poama Fetei Neagră (both in the Republic of Moldova) and Schwarze Madchentraube (Romania). Source: "Wine Grapes", Jancis Robinson, Julia Harding, Jose Vouillamoz, Penguin Books – Allen Lane, edition 005, page 348.
And, because I always try to start the tastings with a fresh wine, this time I chose a blend of Fetească Albă and Fetească Regală (to stay in the theme that gives the name of this event), the 2022 harvest, as a welcome drink.
Welcome drink:
- Catleya – Fremat alb (White Feteasca, Royal Feteasca)
The wines in the tasting:
- (Transylvania) Villa Vinea – Fetească Neagră
- (Banat) Petro Vaselo – Melgis Fetească Neagra
- (Oltenia) Catleya – Perfect Simple Black Feminine
- (Dobrogea) Domain Bogdan - Primordial Fetească Neagră
- (Muntenia) Aurelia Vișinescu – Fetească Neagră Signature
At this tasting Cosmin Dragomir will tell the story of the Sarmals and he also proposes the following types of sarmals that will be tasted during the event:
- Fast food
- Classic sarmales in cabbage leaves with beef and pork, accompanied by smoked meat
- Estonian sarmale (beef, veal, pork and cranberries)
- Greek sarmales in vine leaf with lamb
- Argentinian sarmales with beef
