AI wrote on another occasion that classic wine tastings (and it's already inflation) they're starting to get boring (apparently not just me). I'm referring to the tastings from a single producer organized in neutral spaces, that is, not to them in the yard because that's how it is there.
However, I enthusiastically applaud any conceptual tasting (vertical, horizontal and even Cartesian:D) but especially creative initiatives, out of the ordinary or barely imported for our market. For example, the tastings of glasses made from Corks, whose host is the blind tasting world champion Valentin Ceafalău.
The buffet of the senses belongs to the second category. Installed (now) in the basement of the National Art Museum in Timișoara (previously it functioned in the U barracks), Buffet of the Senses offers you an interactive experience with the world of wine. Initiated and curated by Narcis Georgiu (the sommelier of Cramelor Recaș, schooled and "trained" at prestigious institutes and restaurants outside the country), it gives you the opportunity to visually and olfactoryly break down the wine, so that you can then enjoy blind tastings.
More simply: there are two installations, one where you can observe the full range of nuances that a wine can acquire, explained according to variety or terroir, another where you can smell dozens of aromas that you can later find in the glass. Moreover, you can "get to know" the specifics of the most common wine defects so that later you can immediately realize a bottle of wine that is unsuitable for consumption.
Each container is numbered, and for verification you have a QRcode that sends you to an application where you can find all the explanations. At the end, we move on to the blind tasting of some wines that - more playfully, more seriously (the atmosphere is relaxing and no one gives an exam) - you have to recognize them based on the typical aromas smelled and explained previously. It's fun, but mostly educational.
Narcis is an excellent host, a patient and charismatic pedagogue. When you pass by say hi to him for me.
In addition, whether you still catch the Brâncusi exhibition or not, I guarantee you that art is seen differently after three glasses of wine.
